Heartland Symphony Orchestra Announces Call for Scores

The Heartland Symphony Orchestra (HSO) is proud to announce a Call for Scores for the 2025-2026 Composition Competition. Heartland Symphony Orchestra is a 50-piece volunteer, nonprofit community orchestra based in and serving the central Minnesota areas of Brainerd, Little Falls, and their surrounding rural communities. Musicians, from amateurs to professionals, come together once a week from throughout the region to rehearse and perform three full-length orchestral music concerts each season in both Little Falls and Brainerd.

HSO invites composers to submit an original orchestral composition. Winners will receive a $1,000 monetary prize, the opportunity to work with the orchestra, and a recording of the concert. The HSO will perform the winning score at its Spring 2026 Concert Series, titled “American Travels.” The spring series will feature performances in Little Falls (March 28) and Brainerd (March 29). The winner will also be invited to accompany HSO musicians to educational outreach clinics at local schools.

The competition guidelines and application form are available on HSO’s website heartlandsymphony.com with a deadline of January 10, 2026 to submit scores for consideration.
